The Cycling for Wellbeing program is a 4 week cycling support group for people experiencing a wide range health issues including those who are anxious or socially isolated.
You will meet new people, enjoy the natural environment and focus on being in the present moment (taking your mind off things), learn new skills and feel the benefits of regular physical activity. You will be introduced to opportunities for giving to others through longer rides to nearby community organisations and outdoor places of interest.
Meet your group in a park and explore green, traffic-free locations in the surrounding area. Choose from The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park or Victoria Park in East London, or Wormwood Scrubs in West London.
This program is inspired by the NHS 5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing- you will build your cycling skills and confidence following the National Standard for Cycle Training syllabus. You will also be able to increase your fitness by taking part in moderately strenuous activity in line with NHS recommendations on healthy levels of exercise.
It's not all hard work though- there is plenty of time for enjoying the green spaces and waterways of the Lea Valley, Hackney Marshes, canals and nearby green routes, all of which have resting places where we can introduce you to simple mindfulness and relaxation techniques. We also link you to volunteering and other interesting opportunities: see our Friends and Great Places page for our partner organisations.
A course consists of 8 sessions over a month, usually two times per week and together we’ll work towards completing longer rides of your choice - you should plan to come along to all the sessions to get the most out of it.
