BEfriend (formerly The Volunteer Link Scheme) is a registered charity (no 1072538) established in 1994. We provide one-to-one volunteer befriending to people within the London Borough of Ealing who are socially isolated because of physical, sensory, cognitive or psychological impairment.
We operate in the London Borough of Ealing through our three projects:
Our core project supports people who are isolated and housebound without support. They may have a physical or sensory disability, or they may have mild dementia.
Our Linked Minds project provides specialist befriending for adults who are isolated because of a diagnosed mental health condition.
Carers Short Breaks:
Our Carers Short Breaks project is funded by Ealing Council and we are part of the Carers Pathway, a group of six organisations who provide this service. For this project, our volunteers visit someone for 3 hours a week so their carer (usually a family member) can go and have a break from their caring role. Our volunteers cannot provide any personal or practical care, but will provide companionship and support, and peace of mind for the carer. If personal care is required, we can refer you to one of our partner organisations who can provide this.
Befriend is also now offering either a weekly call or a weekly visit and actively offer telephone befriending.
In order to be eligible for our service, a client must be:
Living in the London Borough of Ealing
Isolated and feel lonely
Living alone (unless this is for the Carers Short Breaks project)
Not regularly attending a social activity (i.e a day centre) more than once a week
Not have regular visits from family and friends
If all of the above do not apply, please call us to discuss before making a referral on 020 8434 3635.
