GP Surgery by Joy is the patient messaging service Joy runs for GP practices in England. Practices use it to invite patients to routine reviews, and to answer the questions patients send back.

Recall without the phone calls

• Joy finds the patients due a review, using your clinical record.
• It invites them by text message. Patients tap through to WhatsApp to ask a question or choose a time.
• Where your clinical system supports it, patients book their own appointment.
• Joy records that an invitation was sent, in EMIS Web or SystmOne.
• You choose: send automatically, or approve each batch first.

What it does for your practice

• More patients reviewed, and more of the review and Health Check income you're entitled to.
• Less time spent phoning patients.
• Fewer avoidable appointments. The same conversation points patients to local support for non-medical needs.
• Earlier diagnosis. That's the point of recall, and the part we care about most.

Who invitations come from

Invitations arrive from "GP Surgery by Joy". The first line always names your practice, for example: "Hello Sam, Riverside Medical Centre is inviting you to book your routine health review."

Prefer your own name? Practices can connect their own WhatsApp Business account, so messages come from the practice's own number and name.

Had a message from us?

• It was sent on behalf of your GP practice, and it always names your practice.
• We will never ask for your NHS number, bank details or passwords.
• Reply STOP or tap "No thanks" to stop messages at any time.
• These messages are not for emergencies. Call 999 in an emergency, or use NHS 111 for urgent advice.
• Not sure a message is genuine? Contact your practice directly.

Data and safety

• Your practice is the data controller. Joy is its processor, under a data processing agreement.
• Messages carry a first name and your practice's name. No NHS number or clinical details.
• Utility messages only. No marketing, and we never sell data.
• Messages that suggest someone may be at risk are flagged for review.
